On Saturday 16th May 2026, Calne comes out in force to watch lots of ducks race down the River Marden, raising money for Calne Lions.

The first of our races starts at 11am with the Business Duck heats, then while the winners from the heats make their way back up to the start line, we move onto the Ducklings’ Race, before the final of the Business Duck Race. These “big” ducks are decorated by local businesses, charities, schools and children’s groups and it is fantastic to see the effort that goes into decorating them all.

After the big duck races have concluded, we move on to the main event; 3,500 little yellow ducks race down the river towards the finish line at the Wharf.

There will be community stalls at The Wharf gardens and children’s stalls and groups at the Pocket Park, for visitors to look around and enjoy.

Duck Race Tickets

Each of our 3,500 little yellow ducks are numbered and correspond to a numbered ticket. Tickets are sold for £2 and the first 3 ducks past the finish line win their ticket holders a cash prize.

Tickets are available online and from April, Calne Lions will be selling tickets door-to-door, but we cannot guarantee we will visit your street. We will announce on our Facebook page for more details once they are known.
Money raised goes to local good causes. It’s a great day out for the family, with activities for everyone.

Business Duck Race

Local companies can purchase a business ducks (decoy duck size) and decorate them to represent their business. There is a trophy and certificate for 1st place, certificates for 2nd and 3rd place and participation certificates for all entrants as well as a trophy and certificate for the “Best Dressed Duck” (there may be a number of heats before the Business Duck Race final)

Ducklings’ Race

Local schools, playgroups, childminders & children’s groups can get involved too, having fun decorating their ducklings (once again decoy duck size) before sending them off to take part in the Ducklings’ Race. There is a trophy and certificate for 1st place, certificates for 2nd and 3rd place and participation certificates for all entrants as well as a trophy and certificate for the “Best Dressed Duckling”.

Community Group Stalls

There will be Community stalls near the finishing line in The Wharf gardens between Marden House and the Town Hall and Children’s stalls in The Pocket Park. If you would like more information please email our Stalls Coordinator or contact us.
