Every May the Lions Club of Calne hold their Annual Duck Race
All monies raised go to local good causes. It is a great community event that attracts crowds of around 3000 people to the town.
Three thousand bath ducks race down the River Marden – each duck represents a numbered ticket – these are sold in and around Calne. The first 3 ducks past the finish line win prize money.
Will yours be the lucky one to cross the finish line first?
Local Calne based companies can also purchase a commercial duck (decoy duck size) and decorate it to represent their business. With prizes for the best dressed duck and first past the finish line.
Local schools get involved too, having fun decorating their ducks with school colours or themes before sending the ducks off to take part in the Schools Race.

Stalls at the Duck Race
There are craft, food and community stalls near the finishing line at Marden House and the Town Hall and a great day out is had by all.
Coronavirus – Covid-19
Calne Lions Club is fully aware of the current concerns regarding the transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK and is proactively responding to the very latest NHS and Government advice. The current risk remains low but sensible precautions and good hygiene is important. The latest guidance and advice can be found here on the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
With regards to the Duck Race on 16th May delivery we are currently operating as usual together with good personal hygiene in line with NHS advice. If, at any point in the future, NHS or the Government state that public gatherings should not be organised, then the Duck Race will be postponed until the outbreak ceases to be a significant health issue – all ducks purchased will remain valid.
